The Boucher family has a long tradition in wine making spanning 5 generations.

My great grandfather emigrated from Scotland in the 1850s purchasing a 1000-acre farm in Indigo Valley, Northeast Victoria. He planted vines and made wine onsite, starting a passion for winemaking and viticulture that has been passed through each later generation

My father fondly remembered the family vineyard and winery. After working most of his life in Melbourne and wanting to create a vineyard, his dream was realised when in 1990 he purchased a small sheep farm, in Kyneton Victoria, and planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. He then with his partner Pauline Russel built a winery and cellar door and made traditional method Sparkling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir under the wine label Kyneton Ridge Estate.

I also loved working in the vineyard and winery and decided to study viticulture and winemaking, gaining a degree in wine science at Charles Sturt university. I had the opportunity to learn and develop my winemaking knowledge at several wineries over the years, including Kilchurn Wines in Romsey, Domain Chandon in the Yarra Valley, and Mitchelton Wines in Nagambie. I have made wine under the Boucher wine label for over 10 years.

I am forever appreciative of the legacy of my family and the passing down of their knowledge and winemaking techniques. The result of this history is unfailing value, with a philosophy of small batch winemaking with quality fruit and minimal intervention achieving balance and refinement.

Our region

Heathcote, north of the Great Dividing Range, has elevations between 160m and 380m with Cambrian soil that retains water. There's no need for irrigation as these soils retain enough water to feed the vine.

The climate is temperate with cooling winds blowing from the south, producing small, concentrated grapes that make rich, concentrated wines. The region's terroirs differ, but all produce high-quality fruit, credited with the burgeoning fame and demand for Heathcote wines. The size of the region results in variations in climate, geology, and topography, leading to a spread of picking dates and different flavour profiles.
